Curiosity Day 1 - Social Media / Reputation Defender / StumbleUpon

This is my first day of documenting a new thing I plan to learn everyday. I had lunch with a colleague the other day and the question came up about online reputation defenders. Lots of radio ads lately and we were wondering how these services worked. At the most basic level, they work on generating a lot of positive press about you so the negative entries don't show up on the first couple pages on Google. They also keep a constant track of what is being posted about you and if there is something negative posted, they will work on getting the post removed if it is inaccurate or if it is accurate you get the opportunity to present your side of the story or resolve the issue. They will also give you tips on how to best leverage social media. The bottomline is that they cannot delete anything. So whatever bad stuff is out there, remains there, it just gets lost. Here is a good article about this - http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/216399/how_to_clean_up_your_online_reputation.html

I've also signed up for StumbleUpon. Having a lot of fun stumbling across extremely interesting web pages that I normally would never know about. Corporations need StumbleUpon to help employees find relevant information that is spread across the enterprise.

Found out that China has the largest supercomputer (actually Japan just overtook them).

I am also learning a new tennis serve. Took a lesson yesterday and now have to work on this everyday. Which makes me realize that some new things you can learn quickly and some you have to work on everyday. The tennis serve is going to take time.
